|Technical Sergeant Sylvester M. Anderson, son of Mrs. Gertrude
Anderson, 323 Third Avenue, has been awarded the Silver Star Medal for
gallantry in action in Luxembourg on December 24, 1944.
Sergeant Anderson, member of Company G, 317th Infantry, 80th Infantry Division, volunteered to infiltrate enemy lines to reach forward elements of a rifle battalion which had been isolated by the enemy. Sergeant Anderson and a companion successfully carried out the mission, contacting the enveloped unit, under constant artillery and small arms fire, and reunited it with the battalion without loss of a single man.
Sergeant Anderson graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1939 and entered the service on August 26, 1942.
