Staff Sergeant James E. Ashley, Fall Creek, was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster by Lieutenant General Millard F. Harmon in lieu of an additional Air Medal on June 8, 1944, as aerial engineer from March 9 to March 23, 1944. The missions for which the award was given were with the Thirteenth Army Air Force in the Southwest Pacific.
Sergeant David D. Ashley, 25, Chippewa Falls, of the 487th Engineer Water Supply Battalion in Belgium, was recently promoted to Staff Sergeant. The battalion furnishes purified drinking water to Army troops.
Sergeant Ashley, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Ashley, 1036 North Sixth Street, Eau Claire, worked with the Raymond Trucking Company of Eau Claire, before entering the Army. He has one brother in the service, Technical Sergeant James E. Ashley, with the Thirteenth Air Force in the Pacific.
