Sgt. W.H. Barnes Hurt in Accident
Sergeant William H. Barnes, of this city, stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, with the 71st Infantry, was struck by an automobile and seriously injured on Christmas Eve, according to word just received by his sister, Mrs. Robert Fugate, 527 1/2 East Madison Street.  His leg was broken in two places below the knee and his face was cut.

The accident occurred at Sergeant Barnes was on the highway, waiting for a bus to take him into Tacoma. He is still confined to the station hospital.

Sergeant Barnes is the son of the late Councilman William H. Barnes of this city.
