Lawrence R. Barrett

Staff Sergeant Lawrence Barrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Barrett, 1301 Snelling Street, has arrived in France, according to word received by his wife. 

Staff Sergeant Barrett entered the service on December 7, 1942 and received his training at Camp Chaffee, AR; Tennessee maneuver area; and Camp Campbell, KY. 

He is serving with an Armored Infantry Battalion.

Lawrence Barrett Wins Bronze Star
Staff Sergeant Lawrence R. Barrett of Service Company, Armored Infantry Battalion, 14th Armored Division, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement near Bannstein, France on January 1,1945.

Informed that a company of his battalion was surrounded by the enemy and in need of ammunition, Staff Sergeant Barrett, without regard for his own safety and under a rain of fire, immediately volunteered to replenish the exhausted supply. Delivering two loads of the vitally needed ammunition, he enabled the company to ward off the enemy until ordered to withdraw, the citation read.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Barrett, 1301 Snelling Street, Eau Claire. His wife, Mrs. Viola Barrett, resides at 527 1/2 Cochrane Street.  Staff Sergeant Barrett entered service in December 1942. He also holds the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.
