|T/CPL. CLIFFORD BATES
Technical Corporal Clifford H. Bates, Fall Creek, has reached safely his destination somewhere in North Africa, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Clifford Bates.
Corporal Bates has been in the Army 14 months and received his training at Fort Warren, WY; Fort Crook, NE; Atlanta, GA, and New York.
|S/Sgt. Newman, Reported Missing, Killed in Action|
|Mrs. Carrie Curler, Fall Creek has been notified by the
War Department that her son, Staff Sergeant Lewis V. Newman, 26,
previously reported missing, was killed in action in France on August 31.
Staff Sergeant Newman went to France the latter part of June and received the Bronze Star for bravery and the Purple Heart, after being wounded in France on July 7. He returned to duty August 2, after recovering in an American hospital in England.
He had been in service two years and eight months, completing training with the Infantry Division at Camp McCoy.
A half-brother, Robert Curler, is serving in New Guinea and a brother-in-law, Clifford Bates, Fall Creek, serving in India. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles Newman, Eau Claire, and Gus Newman, New York; a half brother, John Curler, Eau Claire, and a sister, Mrs. Floyd Livingston, of California.
