|S/Sgt. W. Berger Gets Bronze Star in India Theater|
The Bronze Star Medal has been awarded to Staff Sergeant Walter G.
Berger of Eau Claire, according to an announcement at the Headquarters of Major General George
E. Stratemeyer, Commanding General of all Army Air Forces in India and Burma.
The citation reads in part:
"For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy. As squadron mess sergeant in charge of both officers' and enlisted men's messes, his interest in his work has been far beyond the call of duty and the additional tasks he has assumed are in excess of normal requirements. On 30 April 1943, he was assigned the task of reorganizing a large bakery which he completed most successfully on 6 June 1943. The quality of his messes have, at all times, been outstanding as to economy, appearance and cookery thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upon the Army Air Forces of the United States."
Staff Sergeant Berger has served with a Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron in India for the past eleven months.
