Private Mancel R. Bergum arrived in Germany in January, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bergum, 804 Water Street.
He entered service on July 27, 1944 at Port Sheridan, IL and received his training at Camp Robinson, AR. After a furlough at Christmas, he returned to Fort Meade, MD.
Upon arriving overseas, he was first stationed in France and is now in Patton's Third Army in Germany.
He graduated from the Eau Claire Senior High School in 1944.

Private Mancel R. Bergum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bergum, 804 Water Street, was killed in action in Germany, according to word received on Tuesday, April 10.
Private Bergum left for service on July 27, 1944 and received his training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. After spending a 12-day "delay-in-route" furlough, he left Christmas Eve, his 19th birthday, for Fort Meade, MD. He went overseas in January, being stationed, first, in France and, then, with General Patton's Third Army in Germany.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Lois and Elaine Audrey, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Storlie.
He is a 1944 graduate of Eau Claire Senior High School.
