Vernon L. Boyer

Soldier Wounded in Sicily Visits His Home Here
Sergeant Vernon L. Boyer, 406 South Farwell Street, Eau Claire, who was wounded in Messina, Sicily on July 1943, arrived here on May 23 on 4-day leave from Schick General Hospital at Clinton, Iowa, where he has been since February. 

He was serving as a Tank Commander, when his tank was hit by a German .88 MM shell. He suffered a broken vertebra. His radio operator was killed. 

Sergeant Boyer participated in three major battles in Africa and Sicily. He was awarded the Soldiers' Medal.

He will leave Sunday for Clinton for further convalescent treatment.
