Private Gerald Burns arrived safely in North Africa recently,
according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Francis Burns, of
He entered the service in May 1942. After taking his basic training at Camp Shelby, MS, he trained at a couple other training centers, the last being the Desert Training Center in California. In the course of training, he received two medals for marksmanship and a Good Conduct Award.
His two brothers are in service--one, Thomas, in England; the other, James, in Panama.
Pvt. Thomas Burns Wounded in Action in France in July
Private Burns entered the Army in September 1942. A year ago, he was sent to England, where he remained until he was transferred to France. He was with a medical company which serves an armored tank division.
He has two brothers in the service--Private First Class Gerald Burns, in Italy; and Private First Class James Burns, in the Panama Canal Zone.
