|Harris A. Childs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garry M. Childs,
804 Market Street, was graduated from Officers Candidate School at Fort
Monmouth, NJ on October 25 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in
the U.S. Signal Corps Reserve.
Lieutenant Childs completed two years at Eau Claire Teachers College, before enlisting at the Chicago Signal Corps School on June 9, 1942.
He studied television, radar, electronics, and microwaves at Illinois Tech and the University of Chicago. He received a radio operation course at Camp Crowder, MO and was assigned to the Army Specialized Training Program in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska; the South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City, SD; and the University of Illinois.
Back at Camp Crowder, he had radio repair and advanced work in orientation and was selected for candidate school, which he entered last July 3.
Lieutenant and Mrs. Childs, the former Madelynn Howes, Chicago, are now at Fort Monmouth, where he has completed a course in fixed radio station and is now studying radio teletype and continuing his work in fixed station.
