Eau Claire Soldier Killed Fighting at Nettuno, Italy
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Drury, 818 Chippewa Street, received a telegram from the War Department, Sunday, informing them that their son, Private First Class Vernon A. Drury, 19, had been seriously wounded in action at the Nettuno beachhead in Italy on February 6 and died the following day, February 7.

No details were given in the message but, during that time, heavy fighting was raging around the beachhead, as German forces tried to drive back the Americans.

Private First Class Drury entered the service on March 23, 1943 and had been with an Infantry unit with the American Fifth Army in Italy since last October.

He was a graduate of the Eau Claire High School and a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Gerald, and his grandparents.

Memorial services will be held from the First Baptist Church Sunday at 11 am with the Reverend M. R. Siemens officiating.
