Lieutenant (junior grade) Bert Durand is now serving somewhere in the South Pacific on a naval base, according to his wife and son, residing in Whitehall.

Lieutenant Durand is a communications officer. Former comptroller for the Briggs Transfer Company of Whitehall, he enlisted in the Navy, received his commission, and left for service last April, receiving his indoctrination training at Hollywood, CA.

In June, he left for Cambridge, MA, where he attended the Naval Communications School at Harvard University, his wife and son accompanying him.

He completed this school on October 1, returned to Whitehall on leave, and was then stationed at Great Lakes, IL, until November 9, when he left for Oceanside, CA.

For a short time, he was at an advance base personnel depot, before leaving for overseas.
