Mathew J. Erpenbach

ELK MOUND Mathew J. Erpenbach, age 79, of Elk Mound, died Sunday, January 12, 2003 at Myrtle Werth Hospital, Mayo Health System in Menomonie. 

Mathew John Erpenbach was born September 18, 1923 in Elk Mound. He was the son of Mathew and Tina (Murray) Erpenbach and grew up in Elk Mound. He attended Elk Mound schools. Mathew received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1946. He married Eva June Smith on September 23, 1944 in Elk Mound. After marriage, they made their home in Elk Mound. 

Mathew drove for the Eau Claire City Bus Company, also worked for Sunlight Diary, and retired in 1985, after working 33 years at the Uniroyal Tire Company in Eau Claire. Mathew enjoyed gardening,  hunting, fishing, and his cabin up north. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed doing for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Mathew was a life-long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Mound and served as a volunteer firefighter for 48 years with the Elk Mound Area Fire Department.

Mathew is survived by his wife, Eva; a son, Dennis (Mary) of Elk Mound; three daughters, June (Alan) Tyrrell and Alice (Jeff) Debee, both of Menomonie, and Mary (Roger) Olson of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, Tim Erpenbach, Jill (Scott) Bradford, Terry (Nola) and Tamara Tyrrell, Ryan and Lindsay Olson, Daniel and Alissa Debee; four great-grandchildren, Justin Erpenbach, Bailey Bradford, Caitlyn Haviland and Alexis Tyrell; two stepgrandchildren, Steven and Jonathon Schutts; two sisters, Katherine Boos of Eau Claire and Rita Hereid of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Joe Anderly, state of Washington. 

His parents; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Eleanore Wikkan, precede him in death. 

Memorial services will be 10:30 am Thursday, January 16, 2003 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Mound with Reverend Henry Hoerburger officiating. Burial will be in the Waneka Cemetery, township of Spring Brook, Dunn County. 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie, where there will be an 8 pm prayer service.
