Robert F. Fomberg, son of Mrs. E. R. Fomberg, McKinley Avenue, was promoted to First Lieutenant on June 5, according to word received from the War Department. He is serving somewhere in the Asiatic Theater.
|Lt. R. Fomberg Awarded Silver Star in China|
|KUNMING, China--A Bronze Star Medal "for meritorious
service during the period of January 1, 1945 to May 24, 1945" has been
awarded to First Lieutenant Robert F. Fomberg, 415 McKinley Avenue, Eau Claire,
WI, by Major General G. X. Cheves, Commanding General, Services of
Supply, China Theater.
This constituted the formative period for Services for Supply in China Theater, when the Burma Road was reopened, gasoline pipeline extended into China, chain of base commands set up along the line of communications, and a new system of truck transport control put into effect east of Kunming.
Twenty-seven enlisted men and 33 officers were given awards for outstanding services during the early part of 1945.
Lieutenant Fomberg has had much to do with the supervision of building and road construction for the China Theater.
