Robert Fyksen

Technician Fourth Grade Robert Fyksen, Coast Artillery, whose wife resides at 142 South Seventh Street, has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action in Italy on November 28, 1943. He is the son of P. K. Fyksen, Hudson.

He entered the service on June 10, 1942 and received his training at Camp Hahn, CA and Camp Pickett, VA. Technician Fourth Grade Fyksen left for overseas in May 1943.

The heroic action, which warranted the Bronze Star Award, occurred near Colli, Italy. The lead truck of a convoy moving into action became stalled in a by-pass and drew enemy fire.

Although shells were bursting all around them, Sergeant Fyksen persisted in his efforts to free the vehicle, until he was successful.

As a result of his deed, the highway was cleared of traffic congestion, and the possible loss of life and equipment was averted.

Sergeant Robert Fyksen of Eau Claire has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in action, while serving with II Corps on the Fifth Army Front in Italy. His wife, Mrs. Virginia Fyksen, lives at 142 South Seventh Street, Eau Claire.
