|LT. COLONEL L. E. GATES
Colonel Lloyd E. Gates, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gates, Chippewa Falls, Route 6, is now serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
An Army Reserve Officer, Colonel Gates was called to active service with the rank of Major on November 15, 1940, reporting at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He was sent to Fort Custer, Michigan on December 18, 1940 and, during the summer of 1941, escorted convoys of soldiers to different camps in the United States.
On March 18, 1942, he was transferred to Fort Benning, GA; on June 20, 1942 to Camp Croft, SC; and on July 29, 1942 to Camp Hood, TX, where he was on the commander's staff.
On April 11, 1944, he was ordered to the 22nd Replacement Depot at Camp Cooke, CA, where he remained, until his unit was assigned to overseas duty.
His wife and daughter are living in Milwaukee.
