Serve on the Seas or Overseas


            PVT. JAMES C. GERBER















Three brothers, sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gerber, Sr., of this city, are now serving overseas, and a brother-in-law has just returned from foreign service. 

Private James C. Gerber has been serving with the Fifth Army in Italy for more than a year. He entered service with the National Guard on October 15, 1940. He received his training at Camp Beauregard, LA and Camp Gruber, OK. 

Private First Class Thomas G. Gerber has just arrived in France. He entered the service on January 21, 1942 and received his training at Camp Robinson, AR; Fort Louise, WA; and Camp Phillips, KS.

John E. Gerber, Yeoman Third Class, has arrived in Hawaii, where he is working at staff headquarters. He entered service on January 31, 1944 and received his boot training at Great Lakes. 

A brother-in-law, Private Alvin Peterson, whose wife is the former Julia Gerber, has returned to the United States after serving in India for 8 months. He is stationed at the Schick General Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, and is now on leave here.

Other sisters are Mrs. James Sunday, 615 Broadway; Mrs. Leonard Nelson, 128 South Eighth Street; and Mrs. Herbert Mai, 104 Third Street.

John has two sons, who played basketball at Eau Claire Memorial High School. John, Jr., was co-owner of Gerber Automobile Agency in Rice Lake. John Jr.'s son was an outstanding athlete at Rice Lake High School.
