Vera Gifford

Second Lieutenant Lorraine Whelihan and Vera Gifford, local nurses who enlisted with the Sixth Corps area nurses last February, left today for Camp Anza, Riverside, CA to begin training with the 44th Hospital Unit for overseas duty.

Lieutenant Whelihan of 1015 Fifth Avenue was graduated from St. Patrick’s School and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in 1933 and has since been on general and private duty in Eau Claire.

Lieutenant Vera Gifford, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Gifford of Ellsworth, WI, was graduated from Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis in 1938 and spent four winters on private duty in Miami, FL, as well as private and general nursing in Eau Claire and Minneapolis.

Lieutenants Whelihan and Gifford, who have recently been on duty at the Eau Claire Ordnance Plant, passed their physical examinations at Fort Snelling on February 27, and have since been awaiting call.
