Elmer L. Gilbertson

Sergeant Elmer L. Gilbertson, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Gilbertson, Spring Valley, has arrived somewhere in England, according to a letter received by his sister, Mrs. Floyd Stratton, Route 1, Eau Claire.

He was inducted in June 1941 and received his training at various camps on the West Coast. He was Chief Projectionist at an Army Theater at Camp Irwin, Barstow, CA.

In August 1944, he was transferred to Camp Chaffee, AR, where he received eight weeks basic training in the Engineer Combat Battalion and instructed recruits for engineer work overseas.

His work is to aid in detecting underground mines and keep roads and bridges clear.
