Five Local Men Receive Initial Naval Training
Five Eau Claire men are receiving their initial naval indoctrination at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL. After instruction in seamanship, military drill, and general naval procedures, they will take a series of aptitude tests to determine whether they will be assigned to a naval service school, to a shore station, or to immediate duty at sea.

When their recruit training is completed, these men will receive a period of leave. They are Victor J. Bachmeier, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bachmeier, 120 First Street; Donald I. Gillett, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Voigt P. Gillett, 825 Oxford Avenue; Robert A. Frank, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Frank, 1702 Altoona Avenue; Ronald E. Vold, son of Mrs. Orra M. Vold, 616 Whipple Street; and Richard C. Plante, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Plante, 403 Grand Avenue.
