Eau Claire WAVES in Yeoman Course at Cedar Falls
Three Eau Claire girls in the WAVES are now in training at the Naval Training School (Yeoman) located on the campus of the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, IA.  They are Mary Rita Goethel, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goethel, 603 Second Avenue; Jean Cordele Elliott, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. K. Elliott, 137 Niagara Street; and Jeanne Lois Blakeley, 20, daughter of Mr. J. Blakeley, 205 Fulton Street.

Civilian experiences and “boot training” aptitude tests were the basis for their selection to the specialty school. The yeoman course of study includes shorthand, typing, naval correspondence, records and forms, and current events. The college-slanted course is complete with physical education and pleasant university social functions.


Mary Rita Goethel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goethel, 603 Second Avenue, is spending a leave visiting her parents, following graduation at the Naval Training School for Women Reservist Yeomen at the Iowa State Teachers College Campus, Cedar Falls, IA. She will leave Tuesday for Washington, DC, where she has been assigned to duty.

Her sister, Betty, in training as a nurse at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN, also arrived home for a short visit.


Private First Class Charles Goethel, stationed at Camp McCoy, his sisters, Betty, a graduate nurse now at St. Cloud Hospital, Minnesota, and Mary, Yeoman Third Class, of  Washington, DC, are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goethel, 603 Second Avenue.
