Lewis Gorkowski

PFC. LEWIS GORKOWSKI
Private First Class Lewis Gorkowski has arrived safely in North Africa, according to word received by his sister, Louise Gorkowski of Chicago.

He entered the service on March 16, 1943 and received his training at Camp Roberts, Los Angeles City College, and Camp Adair, Oregon.

He graduated from the Fairchild High School and was employed by the government in Washington, DC, before entering the service.


City Infantryman Killed in Italy
PFC. LEWIS GORKOWSKI
Private First Class Lewis George Gorkowski, 20, son of Stanley Gorkowski, Milwaukee, was killed in action in Italy on September 24.

His twin sister, Louise Gorkowski, Seaman Second Class, is serving in the WAVES.

Private First Class Gorkowski was born in Eau Claire on March 27, 1924, and he and his twin sister attended Eau Claire schools until they moved to Fairchild in 1941. They were graduated from the high school there in 1942.

They made their home at Fairchild with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gorkowski.

In November 1942, Gorkowski went to work in the Commerce Building at Washington, DC. He entered the service on March 17, 1943 and received his training at Camp Roberts, CA; Chapman's College, Los Angeles; Camp Adair, OR.

He arrived in North Africa last May and, from there, went to Italy, where he served with the Infantry.

His mother preceded him in death on February 4, 1932.

Besides his father and twin sister, he is survived by his grandparents, Mrs. A. Gorkowski, Fairchild, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Scholling, Altoona. Several other relatives also survive.
