|ENSIGN F. T. HANSEN, JR.
Ensign Fred T. Hansen, Jr., a graduate of Annapolis in 1942 and, since then, with several months active duty on a destroyer with the United States Navy in various waters of the globe, arrived in Eau Claire Saturday on a short leave and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred T. |An Eau Claire girl, formerly an enlisted WAVE, has been
selected for officer's training and is now at Midshipmen's School at
Smith College, Northampton, MA.
She is Harriet M. Hansen, 418 Marston Avenue, Eau Claire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Hansen. Her brother is Lieutenant (jg) F. T. Hansen, Jr., USN, a graduate of the Naval Academy.
Miss Hansen attended the University of Wisconsin. She was stationed in the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts Office in Cleveland, before being selected for officer's training. She formerly held the rating of Storekeeper Third Class. She had completed a course at the Navy Storekeeper's School on the campus of the University of Indiana.
|At Naval Air Base|
Ensign Harriet Hansen has been
assigned to duty at the Naval Air Training Station, Pensacola, FL and
will report there, following a leave spent with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Hansen, Marston Avenue.
Ensign Hansen, a graduate of the Eau Claire High School and of the University of Wisconsin, has just completed a four-month course of training in the Navy Supply Corps School at Harvard School of Business Administration, Radcliffe Branch.
Women who have held important executive positions in business were among the WAVES taking this course, Miss Hansen said. Her training and her work, since she enlisted in the women's branch of the Navy Reserve, have been of unusual interest and value, she states, and she believes that many more girls would enlist, if they realized the many opportunities the service holds for them.
This Eau Claire girl enlisted in the WAVES in October 1942 and, after boot training, she completed a course at the Navy Storekeeper's School on the campus of the University of Indiana. She was chosen for officer's training and received her commission after graduation from Midshipmen's School at Smith College, Northampton, MA.
Ensign Hansen has a brother in the service, Lieutenant F. T. Hansen, a graduate of the Naval Academy at Annapolis. He is now at the Naval Air Station at Ottumwa, Iowa, after he and his wife, the former Janet Hopkins, spent a month's leave visiting his parents here.
