|WITH THE 5TH ARMY, Italy--Staff Sergeant Raymond E.
Hanson, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nellie Hanson, Blair, recently was
awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in
He is serving on the 5th Army Front in Italy with the 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st "Powder River Division."
When his company's position was seriously endangered by a large enemy combat patrol, Hanson and two other soldiers left their covered positions and boldly attacked the Germans. In the face of intense fire, they rushed the enemy force. Surprised and disorganized by this sudden assault, the enemy withdrew.
Hanson entered service in October 1942. He was previously awarded the Bronze Star.
