Six Eau Claire Youth Join Navy
Seven young men enlisted in the Navy through the Chippewa Falls office recently, according to R. W. Shuey, Recruiter in Charge. Those from the Eau Claire area included Donald B. Koger, 807 Water Street; Richard Gabus, 709 Talmadge Street; Roy E. Ferdon, 602 ˝ Water Street; Donald N. Johnson, Rural Route 4, Piedmont Road; Myrland L. Hatleli, Route 4; and Anthony A. Polus, 1135 Pershing Street, Eau Claire. Also enlisted was Merton G. Jones of Mondovi.

The Navy now offers its Eddy test for radar training to young men 17 years of age and to draft registrants who have had their pre-induction physical examination, said Shuey. Applicants who successfully pass the Eddy test are given 10 months of specialized training equal to two years of college. This training also assures them of a good post-war job in a field where opportunities are unlimited, Shuey said. Television, radio engineering, industrial electronics, and aviation are just a few, and anyone interested in preparing himself for the future is invited to investigate the Navy’s radar program now. The Eau Claire office is open on every Thursday and Saturday and is located in the post office building.
