|PFC. ELDON HOVIND
Private First Class Eldon W. Hovind, son of Mrs. Otto Hovind, Route 6, Menomonie, has been awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action in Germany, according to an announcement by Brigadier General W. G. Weaver, received by his mother.
Private First Class Hovind participated in a bitter attack, which resulted in the capture of the objective, despite fierce enemy resistance. Although wounded by hand grenade fragments, he took up defensive position on the objective and helped repulse an enemy counterattack which threatened to overrun the position. His outstanding devotion to duty and great personal courage are in the highest traditions of the military service.
He entered the service on December 17, 1942 and received his training at Camp Claiborne, LA and Camp Howze, TX.
