Alton K. Johnson

Private Alton K. Johnson, who entered the service in December 1943 and received his basic training at Camp Fannin, TX, has arrived in England, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Johnson of Strum.

Private Johnson, an Infantryman, reports a shortage of luxuries, such as cigarettes, candy, reading material, and soap. Each soldier has his supplies rationed, but the food is good and abundant, he says. The weather is moist and cool, and verdant green foliage covers the countryside.

Prior to entering the service, Private Johnson was employed by the Decorah Posten, a Norwegian publication in Decorah, IA, as a linotype operator.
