DON J. SAYLOR, CPL. GERALD WINGET; PFC. EUGENE KJERNAN
Left to right, are three Eau Claire men who are stationed at the Army Air Corps Base at Assam, North India, Private First Class Don J. Saylor, Corporal Gerald Winget, and Private First Class Eugene Kjernan.
Saylor is a son of Mrs. J. Saylor Schmidt, 934 1/2 Barland Street; Winget is a son of Mrs. Sally Johnson, 820 Oxford Avenue; and Kjernan's mother, Mrs. Inga Kjernan, resides at 903 Summer Street. The three men arrived in India last February.
Saylor entered service in May 1942 and was trained at Chanute Field, IL; Patterson Field, OH; Fort Wayne, IN; and Lake Charles, LA.
Winget entered service in October 1942 and received training at Las Vegas, NM; Miami, FL; and West Palm Beach, FL.
Kjernan entered service in September 1942 and trained at Luna, NM; Goldsboro, SC; Kansas City, MO; Wilmington, DE; Long Beach, CA; Milwaukee; and Reno, NV.
The three men have been friends more than 18 years, growing up and attending school together. They are doing similar work at the air base and share the same barracks with bunks side by side.
