Silver Star Awarded to D. J. Lahner

Donald J. Lahner, GM Second Class, United States Navy has just received the Silver Star, according to word received by his wife, Evelyn, “for distinguishing himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy in Leyte Gulf.”  

He enlisted in the Navy on  January 6, 1945, received his boot training at Great Lakes Naval Station, and was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, TX, until February 1944.  Since then he has been in the Pacific.

His brother, Private Jerome (Bob) Lahner, is serving in the Marine Corps in the western Carolinas.  Another brother, Derald J. Lahner, has just enlisted in the Merchant Marines.
