Sisters Enlist in Service



The two daughters of Mrs. Richard Lieske, of 604 Fall Street, have enlisted in the service, Anna Louise in the WAVES [Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services] and Alice in the SPARS [Women’s Reserve of the Coast Guard] .

Anna Louise Lieske left on Tuesday for Cedar Falls, IA, where she will take preliminary training for service in the WAVES. Miss Lieske was graduated from the Eau Claire High School in 1932 and was employed at the Phillips Company prior to her enlistment.

Alice Lieske, who joined another branch of the Naval service by enlisting in the SPARS, reports on March 3 to her training base at Hunter College, New York City. She was graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1928 and attended the Eau Claire Teachers College for two years. She was also employed by Phillips and Sons, prior to her enlistment.

Local WAVE Sent to Indiana U. for Further Training

Anna L. Lieske, daughter of Mrs. Anna Lieske of 1016 Omaha Street, has completed her basic training in the WAVES at Bloomington, IN and has been selected to become a Storekeeper in the Women’s Reserve of the United States Navy and has been transferred to the special training school at Indiana University for 16 weeks further instruction.

The WAVE Bluejacket has already received a period of indoctrination training in Navy customs and regulations.  At Indiana University, she will receive instruction in preparing reports on stock under the Supply Department to qualify for her work in Navy Clothing Commissary or Disbursing Office.
