Jack Lighthizer

Wearer of the Distinguished Flying Cross

Staff Sergeant Jack Lighthizer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Lighthizer, Augusta, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for “extraordinary achievements while serving as a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber on a number of combat bombardment missions over Germany and German-occupied countries.”

Sergeant Lighthizer, who has warded off many enemy attacks, has previously been awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Clusters.

He has an older brother serving with the Airborne Infantry on the battlefront in Italy.
