|ENSIGN BURTON D. LOKEN
Burton D. Loken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Loken, 317 North Dewey Street, has been commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy Reserve and left here Saturday for the Indoctrination School for Naval Officers at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, for a course of training. He received his commission in the Aviation Division of the Navy.
Ensign Loken is a graduate of Eau Claire High School and Eau Claire State Teachers College. After being graduated from the college in 1936, he taught in junior high school here for three years. He received a Master's Degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1940 and then took a teaching position in Central High School at Superior where he was in charge of school publications.
Last summer, he joined the editorial staff of the Duluth News Tribune, while continuing in charge of publications at Superior Central.
He applied for a commission in the Navy with the Minneapolis Officer Procurement Board, while employed on the newspaper at Duluth, and received his commission. His wife and three-year-old son will make their home with her parents at Menomonie temporarily.
