|LT. ROBERT J. LONG
It has been announced by the Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force in England that Second Lieutenant Robert J. Long of Stanley has recently been awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for services rendered while piloting a B-17 Flying Fortress.
The citation states these awards were made for "meritorious achievement in accomplishing with distinction many hours of meteorological reconnaissance operations; many of these missions being accomplished under hazardous weather conditions and danger of enemy opposition. The courage, skill and untiring energy displayed by Lieutenant Long reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States."
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton O. Long, Stanley, Lieutenant Long attended Stanley High School and the University of Wisconsin, before entering the service in May 1942. He has been overseas since August 1944.
