Gordon L. Mattice

Gets Award of Purple Heart
Staff Sergeant Arlo Mattice, who is somewhere in Germany, has been awarded the Purple Heart for a shrapnel wound received on December 11 and the Bronze Star for bravery. He brought out a badly wounded soldier from under machine g un fire.

Staff Sergeant Mattice entered the service in July 1941 and has been overseas since October 1944.

His wife, Elaine, and daughter reside at 616 1/2 Bellinger Street. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Mattice, 1608 Woodland Avenue.

Sergeant Mattice also has two brothers in the service, Petty Officer Second Class Gordon Mattice, who is with the Navy Seabees in Saipan, and John Mattice, Seaman First Class, aerial gunner in the Navy Air Corps, who is stationed in Oregon.


Second Class Petty Officer Gordon L. Mattice of the Seabees, who has been overseas for the past 12 months, is spending a 30-day leave with his wife and baby son, 317 1/2 North Barstow Street, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mattice, 1608 Woodland Avenue.
