Robert R. Mattson

PROMOTION
Robert R. Mattson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mattson, 102 North Eighth Street, has been promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 28, 1942 and graduated from radio school at Scott Field, IL on July 3, 1943. He was stationed at Salt Lake City, UT; Boise, ID; Wendover Field; UT; and at present is at Tonopah, NV.

Sergeant Robert R. Mattson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mattson, 102 North Eighth Street, has arrived safely somewhere in England, according to word received by his parents. 

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 28, 1942 and received his training at Keesler Field, MS and Scott Field, IL, where he graduated from radio school on July 3, 1943. 

From there, he went to Gowen Field, ID; Wendover Field, UT; Tonopah, NV; and Hamilton Field, CA. 

He is a crew member of a Liberator bomber.


Given Air Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster
T/SGT. ROBERT MATTSON
Technical Sergeant Robert Mattson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mattson, 102 North Eighth Street, has been awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in aerial combat, according to word received by his parents.

Sergeant Mattson, who has completed 25 bombing missions, is a radio operator and waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber at an Eighth Air Force station in England.

Entering the Air Corps on October 28, 1942, he received his training at Keesler Field, MS; Scott Field, IL; Gowen Field, ID; Wendover Field, UT; Tonopah, NV; and Hamilton Field, CA and has been overseas since February 6 of this year.

He recently returned to his air base from a 7-day furlough spent at Glasgow, Scotland.


AWARDED
The third Oak Leaf Cluster has been added to the Air Medal of Technical Sergeant Robert R. Mattson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mattson, 102 North Eighth Street, for meritorious achievement in aerial combat. Sergeant Mattson is a radio operator and gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber and has made 30 bombing missions over Germany and enemy-occupied Europe.

Technical Sergeant Robert R. Mattson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mattson, 102 North Eighth Street, is home on a 27-day furlough. He recently returned from overseas, after completing 30 missions as a radio operator and waist gunner on a B-24 (Liberator bomber) over Germany and Nazi-occupied Europe. He was stationed at an Eight Air Force Base in England.

Technical Sergeant Mattson was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

At the end of his furlough, he will report to the Redistribution Center at Miami Beach, FL.
