George Horan Miller

COMPLETES BASIC
Aviation Cadet George H. Miller, son of Mrs. Margaret Miller, 3984 Beaconfield, Detroit, MI, formerly of Eau Claire, has completed his training at the basic flying school at Courtland, AL and has been transferred to an advanced flying school for the final period of his pilot training. After completing his advanced training, he will receive his wings and will be appointed Flight Officer or Second Lieutenant and assigned to active duty.

Lieutenant George Miller, son of Mrs. Margaret Miller of Detroit, MI, formerly of Eau Claire, spent Friday visiting relatives here. His brother, Lieutenant Edward Miller, who has been stationed at Columbia, SC, left last week for overseas duty. Another brother, Robert, in the U.S. Navy, is now stationed in Ireland.

Lieutenant George Horan Miller, son of Mrs. Margaret Miller, Columbia, SC, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. George G. Miller, 321 Hudson Street, and nephew of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Osterman, 139 Hudson Street, was killed in a plane crash at Dyersburg, TN recently, according to word received from his mother by Eau Claire relatives. No details of the accident were given.

Lieutenant Miller graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941, when the above picture was taken, and entered the Air Corps in 1943, after attending Wisconsin University two years. He was president of his class in high school and prom king. 

He is survived by his mother, formerly Margaret Horan, and two brothers, both in service: Lieutenant Edward Miller, now pilot of a bomber, and Robert, now serving with the Medical Corps on a hospital ship.


Rites to Be Held Here Tuesday for Lt. George Miller
Funeral services for Lieutenant George Horan Miller, son of Mrs. Margaret Miller, Columbia, South Carolina, a former resident of Eau Claire, will be held Tuesday morning at 8:15 from the Golden Funeral Chapel and at 8:30 from St. Patrick's Church, the Rt. Reverend Msgr. C. E. Dowd officiating.  

There will be rosary devotions at the funeral home chapel Monday evening at 8:30.  

Lieutenant Miller, an Army Air Corps pilot, was killed in a plane crash at Dyersburg, TN. Details of the accident were not received, but six other airmen lost their lives in the same crash. 

Besides his mother, the former Margaret Horan, he is survived by two brothers, Lieutenant Edward Miller, a bomber pilot, and Robert, serving with the Medical Corps on a hospital ship, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George G. Miller, 321 Hudson Street. He was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Osterman, 1391 Hudson Street. 

Lieutenant Miller was graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941 and entered the Air Corps in 1943, after two years at the University of Wisconsin. He was prom king in high school.
